Fri, August 17, 2007 - 1:03 PMI've been trying to get an answer to that for years- something inside like the transformer core plates is vibrating at the frequency of the output current. Some drivers are much louder than others even within the same lot. The only way I've found to get quiet drivers is to buy more than you need and not use the loudest ones.
It is kinda cool that the sound varies with the load, so if you are switching different combinations of wire lengths it makes a sort of tune. It's part of the living sound of the playa!
