I need to run a cable from one end of my bike to the other where the EL-wire inverter sits.
I was thinking of using CAT-5 UTP cable - cos it's cheap and ubiquitous (basically I'll grab a drop cable out of the bits bin at work).
Has anyone tried this? I was just wondering about insulation breakdown or excessive resistance?

Re: Cable question
Fri, July 27, 2007 - 8:51 AMStranded wire is easier to solder & makes stronger joints than solid, I gave up on using recycled phone wire long ago. Solid wire is usualy used with push-style connectors, not soldered.
Don't have to worry about electrical characteristics for short runs.
Cat-5 is twisted pairs which is nice & convenient for routing at the wire end. I like to use 2- or 4-pair shielded twisted pair stranded 20-gauge, which I tend to find a lot of.
